Source (target) localization is one of the interesting applications of sensor networks. Localization algorithms that use received signal strength (RSS) measurements at individual sensor nodes are proposed. The maximum likelihood (ML) algorithm is known as an algorithm for source localization. In uniform propagation environments, the ML algorithm has high accuracy to estimate source location. Meanwhile, in nonuniform propagation environments, the ML algorihm has low accuracy because this algorihm uses RSS from all {the} sensor nodes equivalently. The residual weighting (RWGH) has been proposed to reduce the effect of the nonuniform propagation environments. This algorithm first set subsets of sensor nodes. The source location is estimated using the sensor nodes in each subset. The final estimated result is the averaged value of the estimated results of all the subsets weighted by the reliabilities.
The reliability of each subset is the residual error of the distances between the source and each sensor node estimated by two ways. In the RWGH algorithm, the reliability of each subset may be high although the estimation error of the subset is large. This affects the final estimated result. In this report, we propose the localization algorithm to eliminate the subsets having high reliability values but with large estimation errors. We show that the proposed algorithm has higher accuracy than the ML and RWGH algorihms. |
