We have developed an always-on communications system that can assist families living away from each other. By exchanging not only indirect presence information but also direct audio-visual information, this system can change communication modes by taking feeling and condition of the families into account. This paper mainly deals with communication experiments between families that houses of parent’s and child’s are away, and psychological effect and availability of this system on their daily life. Experimental results are as follows;
(1) Exchanging indirect information triggers a “face-to-face” communication but differences of media types used for indirect communication has no effect on the experiment.
(2) Media types used for indirect communication has no correlation with psychological effect on the users.
(3) In order to make this system more available for family users, it is very important for them to feel relief and feel very close each other by knowing each other’s living situation |
