In this article, we propose a method for detecting metastatic bone tumors. In metastatic bone tumors, because the bone tissues are damaged, the corresponding CT values become lower than normal ones. Hence, simple binarization fails to detect the regions. For detecting the bone regions correctly, our proposed method interpolates the bone regions by means of anisotropic diusion of the CT image, and binarizes the resulted image to detect bone regions. In addition, tumor regions are detected by binarizing the PET image. Finally, the method computes the intersection of the bone regions and the tumor ones and detects the metastatic bone tumors. Experimental results show that the method works well. |
