Structural approach of customized EDFA for optical packets

(in English) EDFA is most popular optical amplifier on 1.5$\mu$m telecom wavelength region. However, the superiority of EDFA is limited to the case of continuous data or stream of frames with fixed length and rate. It has been well known that an injection of bursty optical signal cause dynamic gain transient and , for example, result in tremendous distortion of envelope of optical packet. The prime candidate was automatic gain controlling (AGC) and the response time was enough with sub-micro second or slower for granular traffic longer than micro seconds. However, the typical duration of optical packet tend to be shorter than the response time according to increase of bit-rate of the payload. We suggested structure of EDFA to suppress the transient and introduced evaluation of prototype.
