Since biological effect for microwave exposure is caused by body-core temperature rise, whole-body average specific absorption rate (SAR) is used as a measure for human protection, and various public organizations have established safety guidelines for microwave exposure. According to the guidelines by Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, the threshold level causing thermal effect is 1~4 W/kg, which is based on experimental results on animal. In those experiments, however, body-core temperature rise in animals was not well investigated. In this study, we calculated SAR and temperature elevation in a rabbit for 2.45GHz microwave exposure. As a result, we found that calculated and measured results are in reasonable agreement for unanesthetized rabbits, while the calculated values were larger than the measured ones, which may be attributed to reduced metabolism due to the administration of anesthesia, . |
