(in English) Many works have been done on text processing of massive data as
represented by WWW search, and not a few of them are practically
used. Non-text massive data such as images or videos have also been
intensively handled in many research topics. Through those works and
their resultant techniques, chances of collaboration between data
engineering field and pattern recognition field are increasing.
Concepts and methodologies for user supports commonly applicable to
both field have arisen concerning retrieval, browsing, multimedia
interaction.
In this panel discussion, cutting-edge researchers in both fields
will discuss issues on a variety of new applications and fundamental
methodologies on handling massive data, and seek new directions for
both fields.
