Succinct Array Structure for Patricia Trie

(in English) A patricia trie is available by removing internal nodes which have just onechild from a binary trie, and is applied to full-text index, dictionary,and so on.There is a compact bit array structure for the patricia trie,and the bit array is called a Patricia Compact Binary (PaCB) tree.The PaCB tree uses $3n+m-2$ bits for a patricia trie,where $n$ is the number of data and $m$ is the number ofinternal nodes removed before the last branches.A PaCB tree is very compact, but has the drawbackthat the retrieval time depends on the length of the bit array.This paper presents a new structure for a patricia trie.The new structure consists of simple integer arrayswhich are to be compressed to bit arrays,and integers are accessible in linear time by using Rank/Select dictionary.The new patricia trie representation enables fast retrievalbecause the retrieval time depends on the depth of the patricia trie,not the number of data.In addition, experimental results for Japanese/English words, zip codes,and URLs show us that the new structure represents a patricia trieas compact as the PaCB tree.
