Video Quality Estimation Model for IPTV Services

(in English) Advances in broadband IP networks and codecs have enabled video streaming services over IP network (IPTV). In order to provide a high-quality service for users, it is extremely important to design and manage the quality of experience (QoE) appropriately. To do this, it is desirable to develop an objective quality assessment method that estimates subjective quality based on physical characteristics of the video streaming system. For the VoIP and videophone services, the objective quality estimation models such as ITU-T Recs. G.107 and G.1070 that can estimate conversational quality efficiently has been established, but the quality estimation model has not for the video streaming services. In this paper, we propose a video quality estimation model for network planning and in-service QoE management. The results indicated quality estimation accuracy was sufficient for practical use because the estimation errors of our model were equivalent to the statistical reliability of subjective assessment. Therefore, our model could be applied to effective design, implementation, and management of multimedia applications and networks.
