Since that practical communication systems are usually communicated under multi-path environment, it becomes very hard to extract the original information from received signal because multiple version of the signal inference with each other. By this reason, OFDM technique are widely used in communication systems which work under multi-path environment e.g. ADSL, wireless LAN and digital TV etc.. In OFDM system, little inter symbol interference (ISI) can often be tolerated and no extra counter measure such as an equalizer is needed. This, though, does not perform well when the channel nulls are located on the subcarriers. On the other hand, Suehiro, et al. have proposed a new information transmission method-OSDM (Orthogonal Signal Division Multiplexing) using the Kronecker product between the rows of DFT matrix and the data sequences.
With keeping high frequency usage efficiency, multi-path environment robustness of OSDM guarantees symbols recovery by low complexity of receiver even the channel nulls are located on the subcarriers.
In this paper, we compare OSDM with Single carrier transmission method (SC-method) and OFDM and analyze it under quasi-static multi-path environment. We also compare their spectrum and complexity. The numerical results show that the channel nulls are improved in OSDM and when we apply MMSE equalizer on receiver, OSDM provides far better performance than OFDM over Rayleigh fading channel with low complexity. |
