Quality of multilevel phase-shift-keying (PSK) signals such as QPSK and DQPSK is easily impaired by phase noise. Realization of signal regenerator which can reduce phase noise is desired to enable long transmission distance of such signals. In this paper a signal regenerator for DQPSK signals is proposed. In the regenerator, the noise on the signal is eliminated by the use of fiber-based all-optical 2R amplitude regenerators after the DQPSK signal is converted to OOK signals through the delay interferometers. The regenerated OOK signals then remodulate the phase of clock pulses by the effect of cross-phase modulation in nonlinear fibers. The effect of phase noise reduction is studied by theoretical analysis and numerical simulation. |
