Effect of polarization mode dispersion in ultra high speed transmission of dispersion managed solitons

(in English) The transmission penalty of dispersion-managed solitons due to polarization-mode dispersion depends on local birefringence of the fiber link. In this paper, we numerically study the influence of polarization-mode dispersion on dispersion managed-soliton systems with the bit rate of 160Gb/s. We prepare fifty patterns of birefringence and investigate transmission characteristics of each pattern while fixing the polarization of the incident wave. We find a birefringence pattern that enables 2080km transmission, as well as a pattern that fails the transmission over 500km. Performing similar simulations changing the incident polarization, we can find a state of incident polarization that realizes transmission of 1000km for each of the worst eight birefringence patterns.
