A propagation mechanism that causes polarization changes of the electromagnetic field is based on the difference of the Fresnel reflection coefficients between the electrical field components in the incident plane and that in the plane perpendicular to the incident plane, when the radio wave impinges slantingly on a vertical plane surface with an elevation angle. This study evaluates the depolarization effect due to the slant incidence of radio wave with respect to the incident angle. The polarization characteristics due to the multi-reflection in an indoor environment is also investigated by computer simulations using a geometrical optic method, and the cross polarization power ratio (XPOL) for each radio path arrived at a receiving point is also discussed. A 5.2 GHz band channel sounding measurement is conducted in an indoor environment, and the measured XPOL characteristics is analyzed and discussed comparing with the results of computer simulation. |
