Self Turn-On Loss of Synchronized Rectifier

In a DC-DC converter of low output voltage and high output current, MOSFET is widely used as the low-side switch for high conversion efficiency instead of a free wheel diode. When the high-side switch is turned on as the low-side switch is off, the drain-source voltage rises rapidly and the gate-source voltage rises simultaneously through the drain-gate capacity Cdg. As a result, the drain current flows and the loss occurs in the MOSFET. We call this phenomenon ‘Self Turn-on’. |
