PLL simulation for GPS signal in the presence of Ionospheric Scintillation

(in English) Ionospheric scintillation is one of the serious issues in GPS positioning. It induces a rapid change in the amplitude and phase of radio wave signals. This is due to irregularities of electron density in the F-region of the ionosphere. It reduces the accuracy of pseudorange and carrier phase measurements in GPS receivers, and can cause the loss of lock on the satellite signal. Scintillation is not as strong at mid-latitude regions so that positioning is not affected so much. In this work, scintillation affected signal generator was made using a model used in some studies and PLL simulation was performed to evaluate the performance of GPS receiver in the presence of ionospheric scintillation. The results show the Fast Adaptive Bandwidth ( FAB) PLL does not work well in the case of low signal level.
