Improve TCP's Transmission Stability and Efficiency by Pacing in Ad Hoc Networks

(in English) TCP is originally designed for wired networks. In ad hoc networks, TCP shows the inability to adapt the unique characteristics of IEEE 802.11 technology. The performance of TCP is degrades greatly in multi-hop ad hoc networks. The burst traffic of traditional TCP injects too many packets into the networks at one time, which amplifies the level of contention at MAC layer. Eventually, packets are dropped at MAC layer due to the high level MAC contention. In this paper, the performance analysis of transmission stability and efficiency of TCP Reno and proposed Paced TCP is presented, and Paced TCP demonstrates the ability to provide better transmission stability and efficiency in ad hoc networks.
