Evaluation of a replica distribution scheme for location-dependent information using information of neighboring hosts on vehicular ad hoc networks

(in English) When mobile hosts share data in ad hoc networks, it is difficult to utilize data on other hosts because connectivity between hosts is not guaranteed due to link disconnections caused by movements of hosts etc.
To mitigate this issue, some techniques for distributing replicas of data items to other hosts have been proposed.
We have proposed Road-aware Skip Copy (RSC) method, a replica distribution scheme on vehicular ad hoc networks.
In the RSC method, a vehicle distributes replilcas of data item at intersections in order to distribute replicas to many hosts with small number of broadcasts.
However, replica holders are selected according to the hop count from the original host which generated the data item.
Therefore, replicas of data items may not be distributed geographically evenly.
Moreover, the increase of the replica distribution traffic caused by distributing replicas of data items repeatedly by the vehicles which received the replica is an issue.
Therefore, we have proposed Road-aware Direction based replica distribution scheme (RD scheme) for determining the transmission hosts of replica with no duplication at intersections by using information of movement direction etc. of neighboring hosts.
In this paper, we evaluate the performance of the RD method by simulation.
The simulation results show that RD method leaves replicas of data item around the birth place of the data item with small number of broadcasts compared to the method that a host distribute replicas of data items whenever a new host appears.
