Performance Evaluation of Safety Driving Support System with Inter-Vehicle Communications

This report investigates MAC protocol for reliable inter-vehicle communications (IVC) in safety driving support system for reducing road traffic accidents. Many papers on performance evaluation of CSMA protocol have been published. However, the great majority of them deal with only communication quality such as packet throughput and packet error rate. Also, the communication quality is degraded seriously by hidden terminal problem in IVC. In this report, we try to assess the safety driving support system by computer simulation from a safety application point of view. The simulation results clarify the importance of countermeasure to hidden terminal problem in order to realize reliable IVC. In addition, we demonstrate the effectiveness of decentralized TDMA protocol as one of the countermeasure methods. |
