It was reported that the atrophy in the cerebral white matter regions could correlate with MS progression. Our goal is to evaluate the MS progression by measuring white matter areas for diagnosis of MS. Current purpose of this study was to develop the automated method for extraction of the white matter regions. Our method was based on a level set method and the white matter regions were extracted by using the gradient value in the boundary between the white matter and gray matter regions. We applied our method to four MS cases, which has MR images acquired at two different study dates. As a result, the mean white matter area decreased by 0.6 - 10.4% from previous images to current images. |
