Exposure assessment of a human-body communication system with electric field coupling with body

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) We analysed numerically a capacitive coupling signal transmission system in the
viewpoint of bioelectromagnetics. We examined the characteristics of electromagnetic fields,
and investigated the conformity with the exposure safety guidelines in terms of induced current density
and specific absorption rate (SAR) in the body. The frequency was assumed 5 MHz and FDTD method was used
for numerical calculations. The results showed that the electromagnetic fields are quasi-static, and
human model was equivalent to a conducting object with constant potential at any part of the body. An equivalent circuit model was derived based on these properties of the results. The results of exposure assessment showed that exposure was well below the ICNIRP guidelines. Induced current limited the applied voltage and maximum permissible applied voltage would be 300 V or grater for an electrode with 50 mm square paralell palate with 10 mm interval located at 5 mm from the body. The local SAR in the body was also shown far less than the basic restriction.
