Implmentation and Evaluation of 10Gbps Application Layer Probe using Prefiltering Architecture

(in English) In order to achieve high-level overall security especially the broadband environment of the next generation network, network monitoring techniques are required which enable multi-layer monitoring systems to run at 10Gbps rates. In this paper, a hybrid architecture is presented where an hardware-based prefilter selectively forwards packets that contains suspicious payloads to a software-based IDS (Intrusion Detection System) and the software processes the detailed inspection. Using this architecture, we have developed an application layer probe both with hardware performance and software flexibility. The probe operates on 10Gbps networks and achieves 5 or 10 times higher performance than the existing software-based IDS.
