Evaluation of Sound-Localization Control of Audio Objects Based on Blind Source Separation

(in English) A system which can control the localization of each sound source individually and freely is one of the anticipated audio signal processing systems in next generation. In this paper, based on blind source separation (BSS) by independent component analysis (ICA), we propose a method which can analyze and control the localization of each sound source only from the multichannel signals with which two or more sound sources are mixed. In the conventional BSS, the low-distorted separated signals are obtained by reconstructing the multichannel signals including localization information from the monaural separated signals which are distorted in separation process. In this paper, first, we propose a method to extract the information about localization of each sound source by dividing the process of BSS into two steps which are source separation and giving sound localization. Next, we propose an application which can control the localization of each sound source arbitrarily based on the proposed analysis. In the proposed application, the control of the localization of each sound source is achieved by exchanging the extracted
sound localization information or adjusting the level difference between channels. Finally, subjective evaluation results show that the proposed method can control sound localization of each sound source flexibility and individually.
