Band Gap Characteristics of Finite EBG Structure on Finite Ground Plane

(in English) EBG (Electromagnetic Band-Gap) structures composed of metal patches arranged with small intervals have the frequency-band-rejection characteristics, and it may reduce the undesired radiation of electromagnetic waves. When we apply EBG structures to antennas, the structures are finite and it is thought that the structures have a band-gap characteristic unlike infinite EBG structure.
In this paper, we take up mushroom type EBG structures and clarify the frequency-band-rejection characteristics of the finite EBG structures on the finite ground plane in compare with that of the infinite EBG structures and the semiinfinite EBG structures. Based on the calculated results, it is shown that the band-gap frequency of infinite EBG structures is different from that of semiinfinite EBG structures. It is also found that as the number of the EBG elements increases, the band-gap frequency rises and the frequency band becomes wide. Finally it is clarified that the band-gap characteristics depends on the size of the ground plane in the case of the finite EBG structures on the finite ground plane.
