Audible Sound Demodulated from Amplitude Modulation Ultrasonic through Earplug Type Transducer

(in English) This paper proposes an earplug type earphone by contact with an ultrasonic transducer (Murata MA40S4S). The earplug type earphone is composed of a versatile earplug and an ultrasonic transducer contacting a transmission rod (rubber and a matched wood of λ/4), which transmits mechanical amplitude modulation ultrasonic vibrations to the earplug, and therefore can produce audible sound demodulated sound pressure directly in the small cavity enclosed by the earplug and user’s eardrum. Especially, the earplug type ultrasonic earphone was measured by the amplitude modulation signal (1 kHz to 40 kHz) inputted 3 V from the input terminal. From the results, it can be found that the SPL at 40 kHz is 74.4 dB (the attenuation by the earplug of primary wave is 53 dB), and the SPL at 1 kHz is 61.2 dB (the attenuation of secondary wave is 30 dB). It is suggested that the earplug type ultrasonic earphone can reproduce audible sound from 100 Hz to 10 kHz.
