Evaluation of adaptive rate control method for ad hoc networks

(in English) New network systems called ad hoc network have been proposed recently.
In ad hoc networks, many nodes construct network autonomously by using wireless communication technology.
IEEE 802.11 is a major candidate for constructing ad hoc networks.
End to end communication performance deteriorates due to the degradation in a part of wireless link in ad hoc networks.
Therefore, major adaptive rate control methods have been proposed.
However, almost all the methods require modifications of frame structure in IEEE 802.11.
Hence, it is difficult to apply these methods to ad hoc networks in which various types of nodes coexist.
The authors have proposed an adaptive rate control method which is compatible with IEEE 802.11.
In this paper, we evaluate transmission performance of ad hoc networks with our proposed method.
In the proposed method, every node can select a transmission rate for each data frame.
Therefore, our method can adjust the suitable transmission rate even if the wireless channel status changes fast.
From simulation results, it is observed that the proposed method can improve the stability of route in ad hoc networks and the throughput performance.
