Acoustic Characteristics of an Earplug Type Earphone by Contact with Electromagnetic Transducer

(in English) This paper proposes an earplug type earphone by contact with an electromagnetic transducer for cell-phones to be used in noisy environments. The earplug type earphone is composed of a versatile earplug and an electromagnetic sounder contacting a transmission rod (cork), which transmits mechanical vibrations to the earplug, and therefore can produce sound pressure directly in the small cavity enclosed by the earplug and user’s eardrum. Especially, the nonlinearity for the electromagnetic transducer was measured by the sine signal inputted 1 V from the input terminal. From the results, it can be found that this earphone can be reproduced 120 dB (SPL) at 200 Hz (resonance frequency), almost all sound wave forms were distorted approximately 30 % (harmonic distortion). It is suggested that the distortion for electromagnetic transducer can reduce from nonlinear input-output characteristics.
