As a part of basic studies on monitoring of landslides and slope stability using SP measurements, micro-electric
potentials and acoustic emission of rock samples were measured, which were accompanied with the rock failure by a uniaxial loading test. Rock samples of granite, limestone, sandstone and mortar samples were tested. Micro-electric potentials were detected in all saturated samples and the strength of them increased as the loading force increased. We found that the bigger micro-electric potentials were observed at the electrodes near the crack surface of rock samples. The measurement of AE gave similar results where crack locations to be calculated from AE signal corresponded to the crack positions to be observed at the surface of the sample. This is a encouraging result that SP monitoring can be applied to predicting landslide or to estimating a collapsed position combining with monitoring of acoustic emissions. |
