One of the important applications of inter-vehicle communications is to distribute the congestion information. Usually the congestion information should be distributed to the nearby intersections, notifying the vehicles that will enter the congested road unless notified in advance. Based on this observation we propose the geocast with local gossip (GLG) protocol. The distribution area is divided into overlapped clusters and within each cluster a node is elected as the cluster header, in charge of the exchange of receiving status and the retransmission of geocast messages. By the local gossip fewer global distributions are required and vehicles newly arriving at the distribution area can learn the congestion information from its neighbors. The simulation results show that the packet error ratio can be greatly reduced at a little cost of the overhead. |
