A Path Selection Method in Optical Sensory Nerve Network with Hetero-core Fiber Optics Sensors

(in English) Fiber optics comes into widespread use as a transmission medium providing high-speed communications. On the other hands, fiber optics also functions as a sensor monitoring physical quantities, e.g. bending strain, distortion, vibration and temperature. A hetero-core spliced fiber optic sensor has received a high evaluation especially for sensitiveness, convenience and measurement of high precision from the practical point of view. An optical sensory nerve network (OSN) with the hetero-core spliced optic sensors is a novel multifunctional network which can play dual roles: as a communication network and as a sophisticated monitoring system. In homes, offices and other buildings, the OSN not only senses environmental conditions but also performs as a high-speed local area network. This paper describes some challenges of network design, control and management for developing OSN, and then explains a theoretical approach for an optimal path selection problem which is one of the identified challenges.
