Multimedia Communication in Camera-Based Wireless Sensor Networks

(in English) Camera-based wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are an emerging research area with many promising applications. Given the resource limitations of WSNs and the stringent requirements of multimedia communication, designing multimedia communication protocols for WSNs is a great challenge. In this paper, we discuss this challenge and show why multimedia data coding, processing, and transmission in WSNs have different constraints and require different approaches compared to those of traditional multimedia communication applications. In addition, we overview existing approaches, our contributions in adaptive data transmission over camera-based wireless sensor networks, and future directions in this area.
