We have been developing an intelligent monitoring technology "NiMSA(NTT Intelligent Monitoring for Semantic Analysis)" that can extract desired information from huge amounts of video images and store the images safely and securely through IP networks, which enables us to construct more convenient and sophisticated image-based services. We have also been developing a surveillance system based on NiMSA. Due to the increase in the number of crimes and as people are developing a stronger attitude towards security, the field of surveillance is expanding to home security and town security including the area around schools, beyond the original application fields of financial facilities and stores. Also, the need to enforce the Personal Information Protection Law and the Japanese Sarbanes-Oxley Act is encouraging tighter control within companies, and thus driving more extensive monitoring in office environments. This article introduces some trials of our monitoring system and describes its characteristics. We also introduce the anomal detection method that will added to our system; experiments in which we apply the method to the videos of daily office scenes, which contain so many events such as the departure and entry of people, are detailed and we discuss the impact of surveillance in office environments. |
