(in English) Recent years, optical fiber breakages of optical drop cables installed in the practical field have often occured in the west of the Tokai region Japan since cicadas confuse optical drop cables with dead tree and lay their eggs in optical drop cables. In order to reduce the damage from cicadas, we newly developed “cicada-resistant” optical drop cables with protective ribbons.
