Dependability Evaluation Method for Remote System Using the Internet

(in English) Recently, communication infrastructures have been equipped and remote system are widely used. The number of remote systems using the Internet has been increased and will increase in the future. There are various services using the Internet provided by remote systems. High dependability is required in order to operate such systems, but existing evaluation has problems. For example, the evaluations based on RASIS are vague and the ones provided by Japan government are very complicated. The existing evaluations are also not uniformed, not understandable and not quantitative.
This paper proposes security evaluation method which is a part of evaluation method based on RASIS for all remote systems using the Internet. This proposed method gives quantitative evaluation in the similar manner of availability evaluation. It is based on the time that the system can tolerate take-over attack, which is one of the biggest threats among the attacks via the Internet. It can also give appropriate system parameters to achieve the desired security. This paper also applies it to example systems in order to confirm its effectiveness.
