[Invited Talk] [Invited Lecture] Researchs on High-Power Applications of Ultrasonics -- High-Power Applications of Ultrasonics Using High Frequency and Complex Vibration --

(in English) The author have engaged in researches on various high power ultrasonic applications from 1960 as a graduation thesis in Tokyo Institute of Technology (TIT), (Laboratory on Pecision Machinary and Electronics)and through Graduate School of Science and Engineering, and in Faculty of Engineering and Graduate School of Engineering, Kanagawa University from 1967 until now, as yet. Main research themes in TIT includes vibration and load characteristics of high power transverse vibration source as graduation thesis, ultrasonic welding of electrolytic capacitor plate and terminal for the first time, welding characteristics of ultrasonic welding, specimen vibration effects on welding strength, improvement on welding characteristics using inserted material between welding surfaces, and etc during Graduate School period. From 1967 until now 2007, various researches on high power ultrasonics have been continued in Kanagawa University. Main research themes on various applications include welding conditions of ultrasonic metal welding, two-vibration-system ultrasonic welding method which enables joining of various metal plates up to 10 mm in thickness, ultrasonic compacting of various powder using upper and lower vibration punches and various compacting vibration dies with multiple ultrasonic transducers, development of large capacity static induction thyristor power amplifiers of 50 kW and 100 kW whose maximum continuous out put power are up to 100 kW and 200 kW, development of ultrasonic butt welding systems which enables joining of large specimens end to end, high-frequency wire bonding, ultrasonic complex vibration welding, two-vibration-system plastic welding, complex vibration plastic welding. And also, ultrasonic compacting of various powders, ultrasonic bending of metal plates, development of large capacity complex vibration sources, one-dimensional complex vibration converter using diagonal slits, ultrasonic motors, complex vibration converter using different sound velocity metal-ring-pairs, direct welding of coated wires and the other many subjects were studied.
