We propose a novel polarization splitter and rotator for polarization diversity system in silicon-based microphotonic circuits. The polarization splitter is based on a simple directional coupler, and fabricated device exhibits the polarization extinction ratio (PER) of 23 dB. The polarization rotator consists of a photonic wire waveguide and an off-axis silicon oxinitride waveguide, and simulated PER exceeds 20 dB in the efficient wavelength range of over 50 nm. |
