Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The use of multiple antennas at both ends of wireless link, called MIMO technology, promises significant improvements in terms of spectral efficiency and link reliability. A number of studies have been conducted on point-to-point MIMO channels in the last decade. More recently, applying MIMO techniques to relay networks has also come into consideration. However so far most research on multiple antenna relay channels is aimed at obtaining information-theoretic limits for different protocols exploiting relay cooperative diversity in the network. In this paper the bit error rate (BER) performance of practical MIMO regenerative single relay schemes for a cellular downlink is discussed.A relay station (RS) would be mounted in line of sight (LOS) from a base station (BS) in order to relay a packet to a distant mobile station (MS).To cope with capacity reduction of MIMO spatial multiplexing (SM) in such environments, maximum ratio transmission (MRT) is considered in BS to RS link. The performance comparisons between the MRT-SM relaying scheme and the SM-SM relaying scheme employing specific modulations are made by computer simulations.
