Design Process for Controlling Power-Assisted Bicycles based on Evaluation of Physical Activity with Multi Time Scales

(in English) Power-Assisted Bicycles (PABs) aim to support physical activity during cycling, but they don't reflect biosignals. Unless PABs solve this problem, users will happen to become overwork during climbing even by a PAB. Therefore, we measured objective biosignals (ECG and EMG) as well as subjective indices. Based on the time-varying behavior of physical activity with Multi Time Scales, we evaluated autonomic nervous activity for each trial and muscle activity for every 10 strokes. The results from 23 subjects showed that the power-assist supported autonomic nervous activity after climbing and then demonstrated the design process for controlling PABs on-site based on the correlation between basic physical data and physical activity during cycling.
