Size perception and localization perception depend on the distance from a body

(in English) There is a deviation between vision and proprioceptive sensor in localization. When a subject is asked to point a visual target without the visual information about a hand, the subject points far from one's body. Conversely, when a subject is asked to point the invisible hand with a visual indicator, the subject points near from one's body. The purpose of this study is to investigate the reason of this deviation. The position perception task is performed to investigate whether the deviation was influenced by the vision. The results showed that the deviation in perceived position with proprioception increases as the distance between eyes and a target. Moreover, the size perception task was performed under the assumption that the length in proprioceptive coordinate system shortens as the distance from a body. The results showed that subjects perceive the size of an object shorter depending on the distance from a body. We conjecture that the difference of perceived position between vision and somatosensor is derived from the distorted coordinate system in proprioception.
