Microstrip line (MSL)-fed and coplanar waveguide (CPW)-fed antennas have some inherent problems caused by the leakage currents along the feeding cable. The leakage currents mainly come from the grounding plate of an antenna and influence the input impedance and radiation characteristics of the antenna. The size and feature of the grounding plate can be considered as important physical parameters of the grounding plate when the magnitude of the leakage currents is assessed. However, the relationship between the currents and the physical parameters of the grounding plate has not been studied quantitatively, especially in evaluating the printed UWB antennas. In this paper, we deal with the relationship between the currents and the physical parameters of the grounding plate and propose a modified leakage-blocking slits for reducing the leakage currents. In conclusion, the proposed modified leakage-blocking slits placed on the grounding plate show better performance in reducing the undesirable leakage currents by approximately 10 dB. |
