A Scrambling Method for Motion JPEG Movies Enabling Detection of Moving Objects from Scrambled Movies

(in English) This paper proposes a scrambling method for Motion JPEG movies and moving objects detection from scrambled movies. In the proposed method, both scrambling and moving objects detection utilizes the property of the positive and negative sign of discrete cosine transformed (DCT) coefficients. Since the positive and negative sign of a DCT coefficient is encoded separately from its corresponding magnitude, the sign is processed without decoding a Motion JPEG movie. This feature makes the proposed method fast. The scrambling strength is easily controlled and the codestream length never changes by scrambling in the proposed method, because this method only inverts the positive and negative sign bits to scramble movies. Moreover, the proposed method holds the relation of the positive and negative sign between two frames so that this method is able to detect moving objects from scrambled movies. The proposed method can further scramble the detected moving objects. In addition, descrambling of moving objects never require either the position or the shape of the objects to be descrambled.
