Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Computed tomography(CT) is used to diagnose pleural effusion. It is an effective method for follow-up to measure accumulating volume of pleural effusion quantitatively. But, it is difficult for doctors to measure them quantitatively from 3-D thoracic CT images. So, a method for segmentation of pleural effusion is needed. We used that CT values are homogeneous in pleural effusion regions and pleural effusion regions locate at back side in the supine position. To evaluate our developing method, we compare the three kinds of extraction results: the first is the manually extracted result, the second is a simple method based on the threshold method, and the third is our extraction method. As a result, we confirmed our method is effective for the case with pleural effusion.
