Measurement of effective visual field in driving using real-time gaze analysis

(in English) To examine effective visual field in driving, we measured reaction times to a visual stimulus during simulated driving with different eccentricities and directions of the visual field. In the experiment, the visual stimulus was presented based on the gaze position obtained by a real time gaze analysis. The results showed that the reaction times increased with increasing the eccentricity. On the effects of the directions of the visual field, the reaction times were slower at the upper direction of the visual field than at the other directions, suggesting that the effective visual field in driving is narrower at the upper direction than at the other directions of the visual field.
