Optimization of Home Position for Multi-Car Elevators by a Genetic Algorithm

(in English) A multi-car elevator (MCE) system with some shafts and cars has a potential to carry much more passengers than current single-car elevator systems. However, cars with no passenger can be obstacles to other cars. This often causes the deterioration of the carrying efficiency and the crash of cars. From these points of view, one of the keys for developing an effective MCE system is how to manage cars with no passenger during idle activity. In this paper, we focus on the treatment of cars with no passenger. We apply a genetic algorithm to the optimization of car home positions. Through computational experiments, we show the effectiveness of our method.
