We have proposed Gigabit Ethernet-Optical Switched Access Network (GE-OSAN) architecture that realizes longer transmission distances and achieves higher security than the conventional PON (Passive Optical Network) architecture, and clarified the optical switching method and discovery process based on the Multi Point Control Protocol (MPCP) and the design of the Optical Switching Module (OSM). To demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed architecture, we developed the prototype system for downstream transmission. The OSM prototype, including PLZT optical switch, achieved optical switching within 10 ns of the designed position in the minimum Inter Frame Gap (IFG) (96 ns). Moreover, the Optical Network Unit (ONU) prototype with two kinds of O/E converter and over sampling retiming circuit satisfied our requirement of 64 ns acquisition time. This paper presents the development and evaluation result of the prototype system. |
