A Method of Generating Graphs of Character Structures for Japanese Historical Documents

(in English) In this paper, we propose a method of generating a feature graph for recognition of handwritten characters in Japanese historical documents. The feature graph represents structure of a handwritten character. In our method, the feature graph is generated according to followings: (1) a rough graph is generated by thinning, clustering and other processes; (2) connections between vertexes are retrieved with edge tracing process; (3) the curve vertexes, which express a curved character's stroke, are added into the graph; (4) calculation of relative directions between vertexes.
