An Automatic Roofing Method from Shapes of Complex Shaped Houses

(in English) In order to improve the efficiency of the modeling tasks for cyberscapes of "Edo", a simple house generation system has been developed. The system can design and generate houses by drawing plans of each floor through sketch-based user interfaces. Plans of each floor of houses are drawn by line segments to which component parts of houses are assigned. If the drawn line segments (contours of the house) form a closed domain, the closed domain is divided into several bricks, then they are roofed automatically by kD-roofing algorithm. We have also proposed the joint rules of neighboring roofs that takes into account the directions, areas and shapes of each roof and its neighboring roofs. The proposed method can roof more naturally for complex shaped houses.
