[Invited Talk] The Current Status of the Development of Nano-Satellite SEEDS and SPROUT at Nihon University

(in English) We had developed the first nano-satellite at Nihon University in September 2004. It named SEEDS (Space Engineering EDucation Satellite). SEEDS was launched from Baikonur Cosmodrome in 2006. However the launch was failed as the rocket’s first engine was stopped unexpectedly. We decided a re-launch of SEEDS. And we fixed minor software bugs and enhanced features of SEEDS. We will launch SEEDS within 2007. Meanwhile we have been developing the second nano-satellite since November 2005. We named the Satellite SPROUT (SPace Research On Unique Technology). SPROUT’s main mission is an experiment of unfolding a membrane using inflatable tubes in space. And SPROUT will offer an amateur radio service. In this report, the current status of the development of nano-satellites at Nihon University is introduced briefly.
