Optimal Server Selection from the Users' Side on the Internet

(in English) Users can upload and download information easily on web servers or file servers on the Internet. However, it is difficult for users to know the performance and the load status of the servers. In order to select an optimal server among several servers from the users’ side, we have proposed methods which use both the round trip time from user to server and the pilot file download time among several servers with pilot files. The objective of this study is to show the effectiveness of these proposed methods on the Internet by experiments for real servers on the Internet. In addition, whether prediction for the down load time of target file using proposed methods is possible or not is also studied.
