Proposal on Network-Wide Rollback toward Shorter MTTR

(in English) A network including the Internet is becoming as social infrastructure. At the same time, the ever-increasing scale of the network entails additional opportunities for network operations. Consequently, the development of management schemes to realize a dependable network is important. In this paper, we propose a new network-wide rollback scheme toward shorter MTTR (Mean Time To Repair), to reduce network failures caused by operator errors such as in input. In the proposed scheme, we introduce a server to manage historical versions of operation logs and sets of device configuration. The server rolls all the sets of device configuration back to past ones when in a stable state. We give three rollback procedures to shorten MTTR. Additionally, we implement a system based on the proposed scheme and measure the rollback time of the three rollback procedures in an environment of 50 virtual routers, in order to evaluate its effectiveness. The proposed scheme will serve for shorter MTTR, for the minimum rollback time is 40.8 seconds being shorter than a router reboot, even when all the 50 virtual routers are rolled back.
