Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) This report applies turbo signal detection with a new channel estimation method to interleave-division multiple access (IDMA) which is expected to improve frequency efficiency of mobile communications, and analyses receiver performance of the turbo signal detection. As IDMA, we focus on MC-IDMA that employs OFDM for frequency efficiency and that is known as OFDM-IDMA. On the transmitter side, a combination of the convolutional and repetition codes yields a low-rate channel code. On the receiver side, the turbo signal detection is employed and soft decision directed channel estimation (SDCE) is applied to the channel estimation in the iterative process. In the initial process, since log likelihood ratios (LLR) of coded bits are not available, the receiver uses only pilot symbols to perform the channel estimation by the RLS algorithm. Using the estimated channel impulse response, it performs soft decision signal detection during data symbols and MAP-based channel decoding. In the iterative process, after replica signals for the received signals are obtained from LLRs which the MAP decoder provides, the LMS algorithm estimates the channel impulse response so that it can minimize the mean squared difference between the received and replica signals. Computer simulations demonstrate that MC-IDMA employing the proposed channel estimation method outperforms Time-Spread MC-CDMA and Frequency-Spread MC-CDMA, although it achieves almost the same bit error rate performance as Chip-Interleaved MC-CDMA.
