Computer Simulation of Gray-Level Image Reconstruction from Fresnel CGHs
Kenji Kinoshita (Toyama Nat’l College of Maritime Tech.) IE2007-304 PRMU2007-288
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In this study, the properties of reconstructed images having gray levels were investigated for Fresnel Computer-Generated Holograms (CGHs) using a computer simulation method. Typically, the size of the CGH is 2048×2048 elements and that of an image used as an object is 128×128×8 bits. The computer simulation was executed by using a two-dimensional Fast Fourier Transform (2D FFT) calculation of 1024×1024 points based on the Fresnel-Kirchhoff integral. The calculated fringe pattern of the CGH was treated as an amplitude CGH or a phase CGH. As for the amplitude CGH, a high quality image can be reconstructed when the fringe pattern was recorded as an amplitude hologram having over 5-bit resolution.
